YEAR-3 SUSTAINABLE URBAN INTERVENTION
Sustainable Urban Intervention focuses on sustainable urban design, emphasising the integration of environmental considerations in designing urban spaces. The primary study area is Chatham Intra, a historic neighbourhood in Kent. Students will analyse this area, design new urban spaces, and outline buildings to complete its urban fabric during the Autumn Term, preparing for detailed design work in the Spring Term.
Chatham Intra’s high street, connecting Rochester and Chatham, requires revitalisation to reconnect with the river and surrounding areas. The module aligns with the University of Kent’s collaboration on the ‘Chatham Intra Significance Led Development Framework,’ aiming to rejuvenate the high street.
Students will document local conditions, analyse urban structure, and develop new layouts.
The project includes the following tasks:
1. Analysing urban structure for constraints and opportunities.
2. Creating a new general layout.
3. Designing a detailed urban space with an ‘urban room’ and developing
